Dear Friends and Family,
This Saturday, I’m running in the 9th Annual Atlanta Santa Speedo Run to help support Bert’s Big Adventure. Bert’s Big Adventure is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a magical, all-expenses-paid, five-day journey to Walt Disney World® for children with chronic and terminal illnesses and their families.
But Bert’s Big Adventure is different from other wish-granting organizations…it’s not just a “one-and-done” trip for these special families. The trip is just the initiation! Following the annual trip, Bert’s Big Adventure provides year-round support for these families for the rest of their lifetime.
Support comes through several additional programs, but the Fairy Godparent Volunteer Program stood out the most. The average length of a hospital stay for a Bert’s Big Adventure child is 3 weeks, with some stays lasting up to 8 months. I can’t imagine being isolated to one room for one day, much less 3 weeks. A Bert’s Big Adventure Fairy Godparent volunteer will visit the child every single day, will bring a warm meal and activity for the child, and will spend quality time with the child. This time is a welcome distraction from the rotation of doctors and nurses. It’s a time for the child to do something they want to do…instead of something they need to do to get stronger and fight. It’s a brief and deserved escape.
It’s always a good time to do a good thing. With your help, the funds I raise can improve the quality of life of a child with a terminal or chronic illness and their family. Your donation will go directly to children and families in our local community that are facing traumatic and challenging circumstances. Will you help me give the gift of escape? Will you help me give the gift of making some dreams come true for a child with special needs?
If you’d like to make an impact, please donate to my fundraising page (Insert the link to your fundraising page here!).
The Atlanta Santa Speedo Run party will start at Hudson Grille in Midtown at noon, and the run begins at 2 p.m. I hope to see you there or along the route! Thank you and happy holidays,
